Sleep Deprivation

Okay, I've been debating posting this because I didn't want anyone to know what a horrible mom I am, but it must be told.

I am exhausted.  Six months of interrupted sleep has taken it's toll.  The other night I woke up to Aviva crying.  I stumbled into our closet, because that is where she sleeps, in a bassinet that she probably outgrew a month ago, and picked her up.  She started crying even harder and I held her up to my shoulder.  I put one hand down on her bottom and thought, "what in the world?  Is that her knee or something that came out of her pajamas?  What?"  It wasn't until I laid her down on my bed that I realized I had picked her up upside down.

That's right, I am delirious.

Laughing so hard! No one could ever think you're a bad mom. Just wait till you move to Ann Arbor. You can put her in another room and let her cry it out. Thats what I would do.

That is too funny for words. So glad I checked one more time today. I wouldn't have wanted to miss this.

I don't laugh out loud much, but this one totally got me.

Only sympathy from me. Sleep deprivation is the toughest part of motherhood for me.

i didn't pick up any of my kids upside down, but i certainly did tons of other things, and far worse. bri probably picked at least one of them up upside down, or diapered their face at some point. he can't go too long without sleep. i love that you shared it. it feels SO good to know that i'm not some weird freak mom. at least for reasons like those.

I hear you my friend! I hear you! Tyler and I were watching 60 minutes the other night and it was all about sleep deprivation and what a toll it takes on your body even after just one night...so what about 9 months? I guess this means that once we do sort of catch up on sleep we will feel so great...right?

I don't want to jinx this, but Talmage hasn't woken up at all twice in the last week...there is hope!

I'm glad you gathered up the courage to post it. And don't worry--she will probably suffer more in the long run from growing up in a closet than from being picked up upside down :)

I laughed so hard I have the hickups now. I hope her new feeding routine has her sleeping all night and much of the day. I'm going to miss you. You're funny.

This story cracked me up so much that I retold your tale at our Primary Pres meeting tonight and they had tears in their eyes!

That is FUNNY! I would let her cry it out too. Next time you might grab her by her ankles.

Kristin,
You are so funny! I am with you on the sleep deprivation! It's going on sixth months for me too- I am exhausted! Can't wait to hang out when you all get here!

Your bravery has prompted me to make a confession as well. Lily also sleeps in our closet in the pack and play. I have been feeling guilty and refraining from mentioning because of how it sounds, but it's big in there! And I can hear her in the night, and the computer is in the only other bedroom in the house and heaven forbid her naps interrupt my day!

first of all, this is the funniest story about parenting any of my friends have posted on their blogs in a long time (the hot dog monster was a close second, come to think of it), so congratulations.

second of all, brandi, if you are out there, i am thrilled to see that you have a blog and would like to read it. k-que, will you pass along the word (and my email address) to brandi in case she doesn't ever read this heartfelt request, whenever you think of it? i'd be most obliged. and i'll give you a big fat shout out on my highly popular blog.
