Jesus' Birthday

We decorated our tree before we left for Maryland so when we got back we'd be all set for Christmas.  It was so much fun with Max because he is SO excited for Christmas.  It's all he talks about.  Whenever he plays with friends he tells that that we're going to have Christmas at our house (like it's a special Ellis Family event).

Well, the other day I was trying to take advantage of a teaching moment and I told him that Christmas is Jesus' birthday.  Instead of the interested reaction I had hoped for, he burst into tears because he thought I was saying that only baby Jesus was going to be getting presents for Christmas.  Nice.  I have a feeling getting across the true meaning of Christmas might be a little tougher than I originally thought.

Someone once told me they told their kid that it was Jesus' birthday, but that he was so nice he gave THEM presents instead! Seemed to work! And that's an adorable picture!

Funny! Funny! My Mom had to sit down my lil' Brother when he was 13 (yeah I know 13. I was like 6 when I figured it out) to tell him that Santa Claus was not real. She felt like she took a big fat needle and popped his big red balloon of magic and excitement. Sad huh?

I was shopping with Noah this weekend, he's 13, and I asked him what he knew about Santa. He gave the facts; he wears a red suit, he comes in a sleigh, he visits all the kids around the world...you get the idea, not once did he mention "the truth". Now I don't know what to do?!

A friend of mine told me some years ago that they make a birthday cake for Jesus every year with their kids, and I thought it was such a great idea that we started doing it with Jonah. He seems to like the idea!
