33 hours

Door to door, that's about how long it took us to get from Ann Arbor to Australia.  Amy and Lisa encouraged me with stories of "it wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated."  Well I'll tell you what, it was just about exactly how bad I had anticipated it to be.  Max slept a total of about 5 of the 33 hours.  Aviva had 5 or 6 dirty diapers just from LA to Auckland.  We walked off the plane in Adelaide with Max in his pajama top and dirty sweat pants from the day before.  Aviva was in a dirty shirt and no pants at all.  There wasn't a single diaper left in our carry on stuff.  Sigh of relief - in New Zealand I started getting really worried we weren't going to make it.  Max threw all out 10 minute temper tantrums on both the second and third flight.  I mean the kind of tantrum where you just can't do a single thing except watch him and wonder if the devil has possessed his body.  The second one was extra fun because of the ten year old boy in the row next to us shouting things out every few minutes like "This is why I hate babies!" and "Not again!"

But we're here.  And nothing could be better than seeing my mom and dad waiting for us.  We couldn't be happier to see them.

I laughed so hard reading your post that my kids had to come in from the other room to see what was so funny. I am so sorry for you that it was such a rough trip, but I'm so happy for you that you're there!

Any time you have to fly across the Pacific Ocean, it is going to be bad. I've done 3 round trips, never with kids, and I thought I would lose my mind every single time. At least your parents are worth it!

We're supposed to fly with Jack to maryland and I'm even dreading that. I cannot even imagine how hideous 33 hours would be.

I'm so sorry Kristin, and I'm especially sorry that I'm laughing right now, but the 10 year old put me over the top. Glad you're there!

I am glad you got there safe and sound. Hopefully the time you get to spend with your folks will allow you to recover enough for the flight back home. I really can't imagine 33 hours of travel. Amazing!

Oh my gosh---I've been checking every hour. So glad this is posted!! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time as when I read, "This is why I hate babies" and "Not again!" Oh my gosh...DYING. Mostly because it's what everyone is thinking and it's so true, but so wrong and I feel SO sorry for you and the pain.

I'm so sorry you were unpopular on the plane and that you had to deal with the possessed child. I know what that's like but it's so much worse in a confined space miles above the ground. It looks like you're having a great time though. I'm glad you got to do this!

My stomach is hurting from laughing. And I have been thinking of swearing off traveling for the next 5 years because I hate the 2 hour flights with the baby, let alone 33.
